Wolf Among Us review

The-Wolf-Among-UsThe final result of this 5 episode series is quite fascinating and will leave you wanting more.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

This a game by Telltale – famous for “The Walking Dead” series – and this revolves around fairytales based on a comic book series known as Fables. You play as the main protagonist Bigby Wolf a detective in a part of New York known as Fabletown. This is where you will meet all sorts of interesting characters which will all help in slowly unveiling the plot. The story is based on a murder mystery which occurs quite early on in the game and you must uncover clues and meet suspects along away.

It takes awhile to know the background of Fabletown everyone in Fabletown, but thankfully further information will be revealed in later chapters. The real downside is the lack of character development in this game. You are pretty much forced to read up the bio information on characters in the options menu if you are not really familiar with the actual comic. Regardless, each character has his/her own unique personality and are quite interesting to learn about.

You control the main character with the joystick or mouse (if you play on PC) and walk around and search for clues in a classic point and click style. The majority of the game consists of dialogue choices and QTE events which may be a negative for some people, but the story is more than interesting enough that it should not be a total deterrent.

The voice acting in this game is quite well done and suits each individual character quite well. The music is nothing to really praise in this title but it does it job in setting up the mood.

The world and characters are portrayed in a cell-shaded noir style which is quite pretty to look at; this is easily the most standout feature of this title. You will see characters transform from humans into their true forms throughout the game which may remind you of a Resident Evil monster at times.

There are a total of 5 episodes and you can expect to invest around 2.5 to 3+ hours in each episode. Overall this adventure is quite decent. The story is worth playing through this title and I am sure you will be wanting more.

All in all this was a nice series to be introduced to by Telltale games and I sure hope there will be a season 2 as there are still many questions left unanswered and the characters could sure be developed further as I’m sure they have quite interesting backgrounds.
